World's First Airplane

We will go on a unique aviation tour of Vologda and its suburbs developed by Avia Events in partnership with the local specialists exclusively for our tourists. The Vologda region is not only the birthplace of the world-famous Ilyushin aircraft, but also home to the inventor of the world’s first plane, Alexander Mozhaisky. In the memorial estate of the pioneer of Russian aviation, we will talk about how the Russian aerospace industry spread its wings and how the people of Vologda contributed to this complex sphere.

Parachutes

We will visit the local airfield Trufanovo and, subject to fine weather, will prowl the air in the legendary agricultural aircraft An-2. We will have an additional opportunity to fly a Yak-52 — a great and safe way to get a thrill and take an upside-down look at the world. [ET1] Regardless of whether we get a chance to fly, we will go through the first stage of the skydiving training course in an equipped classroom.

Unique Terminal

In Vologda, you will find a unique terminal available only to passengers of local airlines and our tourists — it opens its doors at the weekend especially for us. Its interiors have been preserved since the 1980s — wooden planks, pay phones, huge scales, signs with incandescent bulb backlighting — perhaps, it’s the last one in the central part of Russia. Don’t put it off, or one day this terminal can become like any other terminal.

On the way, we will see two aircraft monuments: Il-18 and Il-28.

Classic Vehicles

We do love airplanes, but there’s so much more to Vologda — wonderful and little-known things. Just take the private collection of vintage cars and the Train Yard Museum. We’ll drop by these places, too.

Comfortable clothes. Let this weekend be about your impressions, feelings, and emotions — nothing should disturb you from enjoying life. An airfield is an outdoor space, so wrap up warm. We know that the weather in our latitudes can be whimsical, so we added indoors activities to the winter version of our programme.

Fans of vintage aircraft can book a Yak-40 flight with the Vologda Aviation Enterprise from Moscow or St. Petersburg. If you’re interested, we can help you book your flight.

If you prefer trains, we recommend to take Train 042V (Moscow—Vorkuta) which arrives to Vologda at 5.59 am Moscow time or Train 126YA (Moscow—Cherepovets) arriving at 5.21 am and use an optional early check-in and breakfast in the hotel where you can get some rest before the beginning of our programme. To go back, you can take Train 018N Polar Arrow (Labytnangi—Moscow) which leaves Vologda at 8.17 pm.

Residents of St. Petersburg can take Train 618YA White Nights which arrives to Vologda at 8.53 am Moscow time. You can take the same train (617YA) back on Sunday.

If you prefer to go by car, you can park it by the hotel. We offer you to join the group for the tour and use our comfortable transfer vehicles. If you want to come right to the start of our tour, you can take Train 737A (Moscow — Bryansk) which arrives to Kaluga at 8.53 Moscow time. In this case, our vehicle will pick you at the station and take you to the gathering point. To go back, you can take Train 7023M (Moscow — Kaluga) which leaves at 7.16 and arrives at 21.51 Moscow time.

If you prefer to go by car, you can park it by the hotel. We offer you to join the group for the tour and use our comfortable transfer vehicles.

This is a seasonal programme for inter-seasonal time and winter, that’s why An-2 flights are not included in the base price. The flight can take place only subject to suitable weather and a sufficient number of people. You can pay for this optional service at the airfield after we receive a clearance. We will advise you on potential availability of the aircraft one week before the tour and the final price which depends on the number of passengers.

We can arrange skydiving as an option. The base programme includes the first skydiving lesson — you will try on the harness, try your hand at parachute folding, learn about the history of skydiving. No one will make you jump off a plane unless there is an emergency. :)
