Out-of-This-World Weekend in Kaluga

Probably, the most unusual weekend tour in the region

Learn about space, visit two airfields & a planetarium

For all those who, as a child, wanted to become an astronaut or a pilot. For those who love to dream looking at the night sky. For those who gasp at the thought of the immensity of the Universe. For those who are eager to learn new things and are not afraid to be different. Welcome to our weekend tour in the Kaluga region. We will get acquainted with the history of space exploration, visit two amazing airfields and embrace planes, take pictures of the fancy helicopter Mi-10, plunge into the mysterious world of aeronautics and listen to aviation myths and legends. We will also visit a planetarium and dream about outer space.

What will we do?

Kaluga

Dream about stars, learn history, meet outer space

We will see the most important sights associated with space exploration in the city of Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, father of astronautics. We will have an insightful tour of the Museum of the History of Cosmonautics, visit the home of the inventor of, perhaps, the most famous chandelier in the USSR — Alexander Chizhevsky. With luck, we will also look through a real telescope. In the evening, we will visit one of the educational programmes in the planetarium and then talk about stars over dinner.

Airfields

Study aeronautics, touch a cargo helicopter

We will go to Petrishchevo where the enthusiasts from the airLegend club restore aircraft of the past and study the history of Russian aeronautics. At the club, we will have lunch and learn about the first aircraft. Then we will visit the famous airfield Oreshkovo to get acquainted with aviation technology and listen to the director of the airfield.

If you’d like to stay in Smolensk for a little longer, there are two more speed trains after 7 pm, however, they arrive to Moscow almost around midnight.

Please be understanding about any changes in the programme due to museum availability. In any case, changes are possible only within the programme, after we get together.

What do bears have to do with it?

Bear Mansur that lives near Oreshkovo airfield is, probably, the world’s most ‘aeronautical’ bear. We developed this unique tour in partnership with our colleagues from Kaluga. It gives you an opportunity not only to study the history of space exploration and learn more about space, but also to visit the airfield that has become home to this young bear.

Comfortable clothes. Let this weekend be about your impressions, feelings, and emotions — nothing should disturb you from enjoying life. An airfield is an outdoor space, so wrap up warm. We know that the weather in our latitudes can be whimsical, so we added indoors activities to the winter version of our programme.

We recommend to book a flight with Rusline the night before the programme — this way you will get an idea of the modern Kaluga aviation, get to meet Grabtsevo Airport, and avoid Moscow traffic jams.

If you want to come right to the start of our tour, you can take Train 737A (Moscow — Bryansk) which arrives to Kaluga at 8.53 Moscow time. In this case, our vehicle will pick you at the station and take you to the gathering point. To go back, you can take Train 7023M (Moscow — Kaluga) which leaves at 7.16 and arrives at 21.51 Moscow time.

If you prefer to go by car, you can park it by the hotel. We offer you to join the group for the tour and use our comfortable transfer vehicles.
